KEEP HISTORIC MACON IN MIND FOR YEAR-END GIVING

Solicitations for year-end giving are hitting our mailboxes. If you will be sending out a check or two to your favorite nonprofits, we hope you’ll keep Historic Macon in mind.

Giving can take many different forms, of course. Besides a donation, maybe you give a friend or neighbor a Historic Macon membership at one of the 11 different levels we offer. Perhaps you share part of the “required minimum distribution” from your IRA or honor a friend or loved one with a tribute or memorial donation.

We’d also be happy to talk to you about gifts of stock or planned giving: bequests of money, securities or real estate, or charitable trust or life insurance payments.

When you support Historic Macon — at any time of the year — you help us achieve our goals and mission: to revitalize communities by preserving architecture and sharing history. During this season of giving, we thank you for your support. Rest assured that we’ll put your donation to work locally, boosting the power of preservation.

To direct your donation to a specific purpose (e.g., Friends of Rose Hill, Lanier Education Fund, HMF Endowment, Fading Five Fund) or in honor of a relative or friend, email info@historicmacon.org with the details.

JOIN US FOR AN ORNAMENT-MAKING WORKSHOP

Christmas Ornament Workshop

6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20

The Tool Library, 909 Second St. (Behind Bike Tech)

Join us Dec. 20 for a fun evening of holiday crafting, light refreshments and good company. It’s free!

Project Manager Brady Gonzalez will guide us as we create beautiful, sustainable decorations using leftover material from this year’s restoration projects (and tools from our Tool Library!). We’ll also have support from Our Favorite Things, a local home decor business, on site.

This free workshop is open to all levels of experience. After we create, we’ll walk over to Poplar Street to see the Christmas lights.

Registration is encouraged and donations are appreciated! Reserve your spot HERE.

We hope to see you there Dec. 20.

“MID-CENTURY MACON” MAKES A GREAT CHRISTMAS GIFT

“Mid-Century Macon 1945-1969,” by Jim Barfield and Walter Elliott, provides insights and dazzling photos of 40 of Macon's most well-known mid-century modern homes. It also features other prominent sites across town that incorporated the popular architectural style.

It would make a great Christmas gift! The 180-page book, a partnership with Historic Macon, costs $49.95, plus tax.

We’ve also produced a self-guided tour, in brochure form, with which you can see 20 of the sites featured in the book. Among the homes you’ll find are David and Sondralyn Thompson’s residence on North Hillandale Circle, which won one of our 2024 Preservation Awards.

Our mission is to revitalize communities by preserving architecture and sharing history.

One of the benefits of your property residing in a National Register Historic District is preservation incentives. Historic tax credits allow citizens to undertake rehabilitation projects at a reasonable cost and Historic Macon is here to walk you through that process.

A key part of Historic Macon's mission is education. We tell the stories of people who make a difference in our preservation community, as well as those pioneering visionaries whose shoulders we stand on today. Read more about them HERE.
